MANILA- The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday inspected the house of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, an official on President Rodrigo Duterte's list of alleged narco-politicians.
The inspection came after Duterte on Wednesday ordered a lifestyle check on Mabilog, noting that the latter's residence is "like a palace."
Mabilog on Tuesday requested for a meeting with the President after the latter tapped Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, a key enforcer of the Duterte's anti-drug campaign, as Iloilo's new police chief.
The meeting has not happened.
Espenido was police chief in Albuera, Leyte and Ozamiz City when their respective mayors, Rolando Espinosa Sr. and Reynaldo Parojinog, were killed in separate police operations.
In appointing Espenido to Iloilo City, Duterte had said the police official asked for the assignment to go after Mabilog.
Mabilog was named by Duterte as among alleged "narco-politicians" last year. The President has meanwhile tagged Iloilo as the "most shabulized" city in the country.
