MANILA (UPDATE)—Two people are confirmed dead in Ilocos Norte, as Tropical Storm Ineng caused heavy rains and flooding Saturday.
The dead were Pauleen Joy Corpuz, 17, whose house in Pasuquin town collapsed in a landslide, and Ricky Manglan-lan, 37, who was carried away by flood waters in Laoag City while helping others evacuate.
Authorities have opened evacuation areas for some 418 people seeking shelter.
Laoag is under a state of calamity.
Heavy rains and the subsequent rise in water levels caused widespread damage in the province, killing cattle and submerging heavy construction machinery.
Weather bureau PAGASA said Ineng's outer rainbands continued to affect extreme northern Luzon even as it made its way to southern Taiwan.
