MANILA - Convicted rapist and murderer Antonio Sanchez is still detained at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa as of Thursday.

This, amid reports that the former Calauan town mayor was spotted outside prison, which Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier said the agency will look into.

Social media posts also claimed that Sanchez was seen in his house in Calauan, Laguna as early as 2 months ago.

The looming release of Sanchez has sparked public outcry, with the Bureau of Corrections saying the former mayor's freedom was not guaranteed under a new law increasing the good conduct time allowance for inmates.
