MANILA - Malacañang on Wednesday assured the public that President Rodrigo Duterte will follow the Constitution and disclose the status of his health if he is afflicted with a serious illness, amid lingering rumors about the chief executive’s health.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said, for now, the President has nothing to report to the Filipino people as his health is perfectly fine.

“Masigla po ang Presidente, ang Presidente po ay abogado, kung meron siyang matinding karamdaman, susunod po siya sa Saligang Batas, doon po siya magbibigay ng impormasyon tungkol sa kanyang kalusugan,” Roque told dzRH.

(The President is fine. He is a lawyer and if he is ill, he will follow the Constitution and will give information about his health.)

"Pero nakita naman po natin na imposible po na meron siyang seryosong karamdaman, dahil normal na normal po ang asta kahapon ng ating Presidente.”

(But as we have seen, it’s impossible that he is afflicted with a serious disease. He acts normal as you saw yesterday.)

Roque said people spreading rumors about the President's health should "hang themselves."

Talk about the President’s health surfaced anew after communist leader Jose Ma. Sison claimed, based on unverified reports, that the President fell seriously ill recently.

Duterte himself has denied Sison’s claim, but he nonetheless admitted in a speech Tuesday that he is in “perpetual pain.”

The 73-year-old Duterte has admitted to suffering from various ailments, including Barrett's esophagus, which impacts his throat, and Buerger’s disease, caused by heavy smoking in his younger days.
