MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte is closely monitoring the flood situation in Metro Manila and other areas of Luzon, his top aide Christopher "Bong" Go said Sunday.

The President was in Davao City when Saturday's torrential rains inundated vast swaths of Luzon, Go told reporters during his visit to evacuees in Marikina City.

Duterte arrived at the Malacañang Palace on Sunday, he added.

Social media was abuzz about the President's whereabouts during the flood that displaced thousands of families. A hashtag #NasaanAngPangulo trended on microblogging site Twitter.

Go said the President wanted to conduct an aerial survey on the extent of floods, but it did not push through because of the poor weather.

"Kaya lang how many times nag-attempt ang Air Force pero 'di kaya lumipad. Zero visibility," he said.

Go said Duterte plans to visit the affected families on Monday.
