MANILA -- Hundreds of residents in Merville Subdivision, Malabon City left their homes Saturday as floodwaters rose due to the heavy rainfall.

Some 236 individuals or 51 families are temporarily staying at the Dampalit Elementary School.

Residents started to evacuate at 10 a.m. Saturday after a portion of the dike of Tullahan Bridge was damaged, said Shirley Delfin of the Malabon City Community Urban Affairs Office.

One of the evacuees, Aram Masagcang, told ABS-CBN News the floodwaters rose to chest level.
