Siquijor has logged its first COVID-19 case, the Department of Health in Central Visayas reported on Saturday.

No details about the infected person were disclosed by authorities at the time this story was posted.

The province, known as a tourist island destination, had remained coronavirus-free since the start of the quarantine period in March, with officials attributing this to a strict implementation of health protocols.

Meanwhile, Cebu City’s active cases have now dropped to 2,942.

More new recoveries were noted at 399, bringing the total number of recoveries in the city to 5,591.

“With more testing centers, the positivity rate should go down,” said IATF Cebu City deputy implementor Joel Garganera.

In total, there are 6,070 active cases in Cebu City alone.

The city is currently under general community quarantine.
