Over 40 medical societies on Saturday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to heed their call to shift back Mega Manila to stricter lockdown measures from August 1 to 15, citing the need to recalibrate strategies against the highly contagious COVID-19 that has so infected 93,354 people in the country. 

The medical groups said the country's health care system is "overwhelmed," citing a deficiency in the sector's workforce, failures in case finding, isolation, contact tracing and quarantine measures, the need to ensure transportation and workplace safety before easing lockdown measures, and the public's compliance with self-protection measures.
