MANILA—A 5-magnitude earthquake struck off Batanes province early Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic tremor occurred at 4:16 a.m. at a depth of 12 kilometers northeast of Itbayat town.
An hour later, a 3.2-magnitude quake followed after, at a depth of 3 kilometers.
Instrumental intensity 3 was recorded in Basco, Batanes.
Phivolcs said the tremors will not cause damage, but may trigger aftershocks.
