MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte's eldest daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will not be able to attend her father's first State of the Nation Address (SONA) after she was hospitalized.

Davao City information officer Jefry Tupas said Sara made it to Manila on Monday morning but was advised by her doctor at St. Luke's Medical Center to have rest for a couple of days.

''That she will not able to attend the SONA is something that the mayor deeply regrets as she wants to be with the President during this very important occasion and proud moment for the Filipinos and the Philippines,'' Tupas said in a statement.

''The mayor reiterates her earlier statement that the President's SONA should detail how the promise of change made during the campaign will be fulfilled, and how this promise can eventually create meaningful changes and developments in the lives of the Filipinos and the Philippines."

Tupas said Sara was supposed to represent her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and her brothers Vice Mayor Paolo and Sebastian.
Sara will instead be represented by her husband, Manases Carpio.

The president's common-law-wife, Honeylet Avanceña, and their daughter Veronica, are expected to be present in today's event.
