PNP tallies 118 new coronavirus cases; total now at 1,761

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said 118 more of its personnel has caught COVID-19, raising the total tally of infections in the organization to 1,761.

Of the new infections, Central Visayas police recorded 82 cases while Metro Manila had 30 cases, the PNP Public Information Office said. Some 6 other new cases came from other regions.

The number of those who recovered from COVID-19 also went up by 75 to 687, latest figures showed. The death toll in the police force stood at 9.

The 205,000-strong organization is also monitoring 719 probable carriers of the virus. Some 2,470 others are under observation on suspicion of having caught the disease.

The number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines reached 74,390, with 2,200 new infections reported Thursday. The tally includes 1,871 people who succumbed to COVID-19 while 24,383 have recovered from the disease.
