TAGBILARAN, Bohol - The Bohol Energy Development Advisory Group (BEDAG) on Thursday decided to bring in power barges to augment power supply in the province after a week-long blackout due to the earthquake that hit parts of Leyte last week.

The power barges from Iloilo and Davao are expected to provide an additional 50 megawatts as soon as these are put up next week, said Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto, also BEDAG chair.

Aside from the power barges that will be stationed in Loon and Cortes, some 22 megawatts will also be sourced from the Bohol Diesel Power Plant to cater to the province's 70-megawatt electricity demand, Chatto said.

Aside from rotational brownouts, residents have been suffering from low water supply and mainly rely on rations provided by firetrucks since the 6.5-magnitude quake hit on July 6.
