The three suspects denied that the P3.4 million worth of suspected shabu seized during a drug bust belonged to them.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 9 on Friday netted at least P3.4 million worth of alleged shabu in a buy-bust operation in Zamboanga City, where three suspects were also arrested.

Suspects Kerwin Sulaiman, Bong Sawbin, and Saddam Gulam, all denied that the confiscated drugs belonged to them.

PDEA Region 9 Director Jacqueline De Guzman said Thursday’s operation was in close coordination with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Authorities are still investigating if the trio is part of a large syndicate operating in the region.

De Guzman said the three are probably middlemen and not ordinary couriers considering the large quantity of drugs entrusted to them. An agent who posed as a buyer dealt with the suspects in a local mall in Barangay Putik in Zamboanga City.

On Thursday, four people were arrested in Barangay Tugbungan where at least a kilo of shabu were found in their possession.

De Guzman believes that the confiscated drugs is class A quality and has a street value of about P7 million.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to call for other agencies to remain alert as Zamboanga City has a vast coastline which may be used to smuggle drugs and other contraband.
