MANILA (UPDATE)—Make sure to pack your umbrella and raincoats in the next 2 days as the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to dampen many parts of the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said early Wednesday.

Weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said tropical depression Dodong, which is not expected to hit the Philippine landmass, will further enhance the southwest monsoon.

On Wednesday, western sections of Luzon and Visayas will experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Monsoon rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Western Visayas and the western sections of Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa on Thursday.

Bulquerin advised residents at risk of flooding and landslides to take precautionary measures and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

In PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin, Dodong's eye was last spotted 700 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan.

The tropical depression maintained its strength while moving northeast, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph with gusts of up to 60 kph.

Bulquerin said Dodong is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility Wednesday night before proceeding to southern Japan on Thursday.
