MANILA - The Judicial and Bar Council on Monday released the list of 8 contenders to be the next Supreme Court Associate Justice.

From the list, President Rodrigo Duterte will appoint the replacement of Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco.

Here are the names in the JBC shortlist:

- Apolinario D. Bruselas, Jr.,
- Rosmari D. Carandang,
- Ramon R. Garcia,
- Ramon Paul L. Hernando,
- Amy C. Lazaro-Javier,
- Jose Midas P. Marquez,
- Jose C. Reyes Jr.,
- Cesar L. Villanueva.

Bruselas, Carandang, Garcia, Hernando, Lazaro-Javier, and Reyes are associate justices of the Court of Appeals. Marquez is the current court administrator of the Supreme Court and Villanueva was formerly the dean of the Ateneo de Manila Law School.
