Arroyo, who is facing a graft case for selling his second-hand choppers as new ones to the Philippine National Police, has filed a motion for leave to travel abroad before the anti-graft court.

He is set to travel to the United Kingdom, Portugal and Ireland, as well as undertake a pilgrimage trip to Fatima from July 16 to 24. He also informed the court of his itinerary including the hotels he booked.

Arroyo said in the motion that while he is facing charges, he "continuously enjoys the right to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise."

In its opposition to the travel motion, the prosecution countered that "it is imperative that he remains in this country to ensure that whenever his presence in court will be required, he can immediately present himself."
