Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro "Jun" Ynares on Thursday formally offered the city as the would-be new home of the Senate.

Ynares made the pitch as the Senate continued its search for a new area, given the huge P110 million annual rental of the Senate building that the institution has been shouldering for the past years.

In an informal dialogue with Senate employees, Ynares showed the hilltop photo which they are offering to the Senate.

The area is a 25-hectare property that Antipolo is willing to give to the Senate "for free."

Rowena Zapanta, city planning officer of Antipolo, promoted the proposed area as one that can be reached thru public transport in less than an hour.

What's good about Antipolo, she added, is that the city doesn't have a fault line and is free from floods.

Zapanta then showed a sample of the proposed Senate "iconic building" complete with environmental background, dormitories, convention center and other facilities.

Decent housing projects are also available for employees who would decide to settle in the city, she said.

The projected expenses for this project given the free land, Zapanta said, is P2.292 billion as against the proposed Bonifacio Global City plan which will cost around P5 billion.

The plan for the Senate new building, if accepted, will need 4 years of construction, Zapanta said.
