MANILA – Vico Sotto earned praise not just from his constituents but among netizens in general for his humility even after he was elected as the new mayor of Pasig City.

This after he urged everyone in his city to avoid the posting of tarpaulins with his face on it, especially in public spaces, from now on.

“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng bumati sa aking ika-30 na kaarawan! Pero tapos na ang birthday ko. Tanggalin niyo na 'yung mga tarp na 'to please! Nagugulat ako sa mukha ko eh,” he said in jest.

Sotto revealed he only allowed the tarpaulin greeting him on his birthday to be posted because he knows some of his supporters are still thrilled of their victory.

Nonetheless, he said: “Pagkatapos nito, iwasan na natin ang mga tarp/poster na may mukha ko ha!! Lalo na sa mga public spaces!!”

Sotto’s plea became viral on Facebook that it immediately gained more than 3,000 comments and was shared more than 2,000 times.

Sotto’s win in Pasig City has been likened to the Biblical tale of David and Goliath. As a one-term councilor, Sotto, in spite of his family background, was considered a little guy compared to the political giant that are the Eusebios.

Despite this, the 30-year-old politician toppled the nearly 3-decade rule of the Eusebios in Pasig.
