MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday thanked her father President Rodrigo Duterte for raising her with "rigidity" and for pushing her to do well in school and on the job.
"You were hard on me about education and work. You impressed upon me that I am not a person if I am not a lawyer or a doctor and if I do not work for our country," the Davao City mayor said in her Father's Day message posted by the Davao City Information Office.
"And I thank him for that rigidity and sa importance ng education because I would not be who I am now kung hindi dahil sa kaniya at sa mama ko (if not for him and my mama)," the younger Duterte said in a separate video message.
Duterte went on to admit that she has inherited some of the president's notable qualities.
Both the President and Sara Duterte, who took on the mayoralty post he long held in Davao City, have many times made headlines for publicly challenging their political foes, unapologetic statements against critics, and controversial jokes.
"I have your twisted sense of humor and the drive to achieve, and these are some of my useful tools as I navigate life. Thank you," Duterte said.
Mayor Duterte ended her message by thanking her father for being the way he is.
"Thank you for being who you are because I am who I am and where I am now and I have all these values because of you and my mommy," she said.
Sara Duterte is the second born of Duterte's 3 children with his first wife Elizabeth Zimmerman. The president also has another daughter with his common-law partner Honeylet Avanceña.
