MANILA - A magnitude 5 earthquake shook Davao Occidental at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, the state seismology bureau said.

PHIVOLCS said the quake was tectonic in origin, and had its epicenter 394 kilometers east of Sarangani Island in the Celebes Sea.

Mindanao has been rocked by strong quakes in the last few days, with the latest being a magnitude 4.9 quake hitting off the waters of Davao Oriental Saturday morning.
