MANILA — State-run television network PTV on Friday ran an Independence Day video on revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio that mistakenly used a photo of Emilio Aguinaldo, prompting a correction and apology.

The People’s Television Network (PTV) said it had corrected the error and that a revised version of the feature would be uploaded on its social media pages.

"We sincerely apologize for this mistake. Rest assured that under the new PTV Management, necessary training and skills development will be initiated to avoid similar inaccuracies," it said in a statement.

"We hope for your understanding on this matter," the network added.

Aguinaldo, recognized as the first Philippine president, was known to have had a role in the killing of Bonifacio and his brother Ciriaco in Maragondon, Cavite on May 10, 1897.

Friday marks the 122nd anniversary of the Philippines' declaration of independence from Spain. It is a regular holiday.
