MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday hailed the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as "the best armed forces in the entire world."
He made the remark during the change of command ceremony of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) at the Malacañang Park in Manila.
The President lauded the AFP for its efforts in the five-month battle in Marawi City, anti-illegal drug operations, and its commitment to end criminality.
However, a report made by a group of former U.S. soldiers in 2015 ranked AFP as the sixth worst army in the world.
The report was published by website "We Are The Mighty".
In the 2018 national budget, the Department of National Defense (DND) received a significant increase under the Duterte administration with an allocation of P149.7 billion. - report from Vivienne Gulla, ABS-CBN News
