MANILA--About 90 buses will be part of a public-transportation augmentation system to provide commuters with enough services along EDSA on Monday, when Metro Manila transitions to a general community quarantine.

"Since we are helping the rail sector of the (transportation department), 'yun ang sinabi nilang kakulangan sa transportation along the rail line so tutugon kami na merong 90 buses this coming Monday," said Martin Delgra, chairman of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

During Saturday's virtual press briefing of the DoTr, Delgra said so-called augmentation buses will not be limited to EDSA alone as there are other busy rail lines, particularly the LRT2 portion between Santolan and Cubao.

"What we’ll do is we will also open up the bus route along that line para matugunan din 'yung kakulangan ng transportation, more particularly doon sa rlles," Delgra said, adding that the service will also be available on Monday along Taft Avenue's LRT1 line.

Meanwhile, MRT3 Director Michael Capati said there will be a dedicated line for bus passengers.

"Meron tayong dedicated na linya sa North Avenue at Quezon Avenue, separate 'yan sa linya ng ating MRT passengers. At the same time, meron tayong personnel na mag-a-assist sa kanila para sumakay sa ating bus augmentation," Capati said.

Pick-up and drop-off points will be located in North Avenue and Quezon Avenue; Taft Avenue in Manila, and Ayala in Makati.

The DoTr earlier said that public transportation will resume in two phases under GCQ. The first phase from June 1 to 21 will allow the operation of permitted train and bus augmentation units, taxis, ride-hailing cars, point-to-point buses, shuttle services and bicycles, but at limited capacity.

The second phase from June 22 to 30 will allow public utility buses, modern jeepneys and UV express vans.
