MANILA—The daughter of the slain mayor of Tanauan City in Batangas succeeded him in the May 13 midterm elections.

Based on full election returns as of 5:04 p.m., on Friday, Angeline "Sweet" Halili, daughter of late mayor Antonio Halili, received 41,757 votes, while Sonia Aquino garnered 27,381 votes.

Halili's running mate, Jun-Jun Trinidad, topped the vice-mayoral race with 50,111 votes.

Antonio, who became controversial for his "walk of shame" parade of alleged drug dealers, was shot dead last year during a flag ceremony in his city.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency insisted that the slain mayor had ties to the illegal narcotics trade, echoing President Rodrigo Duterte's accusation.

The daughter disputed that Duterte had been misinformed about her father.
