MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte early Tuesday said he has taken a neutral stance in this year's barangay elections in order not to cast doubts on where his loyalty lies.

"To erase all suspicions in the mind of people who really helped me along the way," he said when asked regarding his decision of skipping the vote.

The president was a no-show at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School in Matina, Talomo district in Davao City, where he was supposed to cast his ballot.

"Almost all were my supporters during the last election. And they would never believe that nagboto ako o hindi sa kanila," he explained.

"Tingin ko the better option would really be to just skip the voting. Ayokong magduda sila."

Though he did not vote yesterday, Duterte said he was keeping tabs on the elections.

"But I was busy, nagmo-monitor ako all over the Philippines," he said.

Duterte early Tuesday attended the wake of former Senator Edgardo Angara at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.

He arrived past 12:30 a.m. and stayed at the chapel for two hours.

"Siya 'yung tagapagtanggol sa bunganga ko...He was very humble and a very quiet person. Pang-diplomat talaga, of which I can never be one," Duterte said. - with a report from Lady Vicencio, ABS-CBN News
