MANILA – Senator Cynthia Villar, who is seeking reelection and leading in opinion polls, voted in Las Piñas City together with her husband, former Sen. Manny Villar.

The Villar couple was wearing orange, the family's signature campaign color.

The businesswoman dubbed as Mrs. Hanepbuhay, whose campaign zeroed in on poverty alleviation through livelihood programs, topped the last Pulse Asia pre-election survey before the vote, edging out Sen. Grace Poe.

Villar enjoys endorsements from religious groups El Shaddai and Iglesia ni Cristo on top of the support of President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Villar is the richest Senator in 2017 with a net worth of P3.6 billion, according to her SALN. Her husband Manny Villar is currently the country's richest man with a net worth of $5.5 billion according to Forbes.

Her “low-key” strategy likely contributed to her high survey ranking, said Ramon Casiple, executive director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reform.

Her business savvy also played a huge role in her political career, presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Jose Ma. “Joey” Concepcion III told ABS-CBN News.

Villar’s livelihood and agriculture initiatives “have created a tremendous impact on different communities,” Concepcion said.

When asked if she plans to run for President in 2022, Villar said she would leave it to "destiny."
