MANILA - The ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and the local government of Quezon City on Wednesday inked a deal for the protection and care of abused children.

The partnership, in support of the foundation's child welfare arm Bantay Bata 163, would pave the way for the continued operation of the Children's Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan which serves as the home of abused children who need to undergo holistic therapy and rehabilitation.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista led the signing of the agreement.

"Magha-hire kami ng house parents, magha-hire tayo ng nurses, mga doktor na titingin sa mga batang ito. It will also help in the maintenance of the place," said Susan Bautista-Afan, managing director of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc.

The local government of Quezon City is set to give P20 million in financial assistance for the year-long care of over 100 children at the Bulacan facility.

Aside from support for the Children's Village, the deal will also strengthen Bantay Bata 163, which aims to serve as a hotline for quick response to reports of child abuse and to rescue those in crisis situations.

"Our partnership with Quezon City Government is a match made in heaven," said Bantay Bata 163 program director Jing Castañeda.

"Iyong Bantay Bata ay naghahanap talaga ng LGU (local government unit) partner at itong Quezon City government ay naghahanap ng partner kung saan ang programa para sa kabataan ay pinapahalagahan," she added.

(Bantay Bata is looking for an LGU partner and the Quezon City government is also looking for a partner where programs for the youth are given importance.)
