A powerful quake that rattled parts of Visayas this week spared Eastern Samar's infrastructure from major damage, the central province's governor said Wednesday.

The Magnitude 6.5 quake hit San Julian, Eastern Samar on Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after a magnitude 6.1 temblor shook Luzon and toppled some buildings.

"So far, walang ganoong kalaking damage na nangyari," said Eastern Samar Governor Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal.

The earthquake, which struck at 1:37 p.m. and has a depth of 63 kilometers, was felt in different areas of the Visayas, Caraga and Bicol regions. It was initially reported as a 6.2-magnitude earthquake.

Only San Julian tallied "minor damage" in the belfry of a church, as well as the approach of some bridges and a national highway, which remained open to motorists, he told DZMM.

Several residents also suffered scratches while some students experienced nausea, said the governor.

The Luzon and Visayas earthquakes were not related but have both spawned aftershocks, said state seismology office Phivolcs.
