MANILA - Authorities on Monday claimed to have a lead on the whereabouts of a Korean-American fugitive who escaped from hospital arrest.

A manhunt is underway against Jun No, who gave his guards the slip while at the East Avenue Medical Center, supposedly to have his swollen appendix removed.

Three teams are working on shifts to locate No, as an investigation on the escape is underway, police Drug Enforcement Group spokesperson Superintendent Enrico Rigor said.

"We do not condone the negligence of our troops. They will face the full extent of the law,” Rigor said.

Photos of No have been distributed to hospitals, especially in areas closely monitored by police, he said, adding the suspect could not have escaped too far because he was not physically fit.

Administrative cases of 'evasion through negligence' and 'serious neglect of duty’ were filed against No’s guards, SPO2 Michael Macarubbo and Ernie Eugnio from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Darleen Son, No’s Filipina companion who was with him at the hospital, was also charged with obstruction of justice.

No, according to the police, is a major supplier of party drugs in the Malate area, where he is also involved in prostitution.

Rigor said Son reportedly gave No P3,000 during his escape.

Police called on the public to report information on No to their hotline 09989992286.
