MANILA — The Philippines reached another record-high of 53 new recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Tuesday as the country breached the 5,000-mark in its total tally of the infectious disease.

In the past days, the DOH pointed out that it has yet to include those who went on home quarantine in its tally of recoveries. The surge in the number of recoveries started on Sunday with 40 new recovered patients, followed by 45 on Monday and 53 on Tuesday.

Before a week ago, new recoveries reported daily were only in the single digits.

The DOH has said that mild cases often require 2 weeks of recovery, while severe and critical cases take 3 to 6 weeks.

DOH data analyzed by the ABS-CBN Investigative and Research Group showed that confirmed COVID-19 patients on average took 3 weeks to recover.
