Low-pressure area intensifies into tropical depression 'Crising'

MANILA — The low-pressure area being monitored by state weather bureau PAGASA has intensified into a tropical depression named "Crising" on Good Friday.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Crising is estimated to bring rains with gusty winds over Samar and northern Leyte.

The weather bureau added that cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and isolated thunderstorms, which may trigger flash floods and landslides, will be experienced over Bicol region and the rest of Eastern Visayas.

As of 4 p.m., the center of the weather disturbance was last spotted at 555 kilometers east of Maasin, southern Leyte and packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.1 has been raised in the following areas:

-Northern Samar
-Eastern Samar
-Samar
-and northern portion of Leyte.

Crising is forecasted to move west, northwest at a speed of 22 kph.
