MANILA -- Senator Bong Go late Wednesday lashed out at critics and denied allegations that he is using donations during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic for personal gain.

Go said in a Facebook post.

"I am a public servant. I will not only limit myself to just being a legislator.

Earlier, posts circulating online alleged that the senator's name of was promoted in donations for a certain hospital.

The senator said donations can be directed to any institution but those given to the government should be centralized to the Office of Civil Defense for distribution.

He added that there is nothing wrong to accommodate private donors for donations and others asking for help as his office is just acting as a bridge.

We help private donors who approach us in finding the right beneficiaries and vice versa," he added.

Go also denied the use of his Malasakit Center project for medical donations.

"Malasakit Centers are simply intended as one-stop shops for poor and indigent patients where relevant government agencies with medical and financial assistance programs are gathered under one roof."
