(UPDATE) Malabon City has recorded its first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in a male patient, local officials said Monday.

"Mga kapuwa Malabonian, kumpirmado na ng Department of Health ang unang kaso ng COVID-19 sa lungsod," Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta said in a Facebook post.

The patient, who is in his late 40s or early 50s, is from the city's Barangay Dampalit and had no travel history, according to Malabon public information officer Bong Padua.

The patient went for consultation at a private hospital in Manila last March 12 after experiencing fever and has remained in the facility ever since, said Padua.

Padua said the local government has sent health personnel to the patient's neighborhood to disinfect the community.

The city has also placed 20 persons under investigation and 98 persons under monitoring, according to Oreta.

Oreta told his constituents to refrain from panicking and follow the guidelines under the enhanced community quarantine.

"'Di baleng matakot, huwag lang mag-panic. Sundin natin ang mga patakaran ng enhanced community quarantine," said the local chief executive.

"Ginagawa ng pamahalaang lungsod, mga barangay, at ibang sangay ng gobyerno ang lahat sa abot ng aming makakaya upang matiyak ang kaligtasan at punan ang mga basic na pangangailangan ninyo at ng mga pamilya ninyo," he added.

It was not immediately clear if the patient from Malabon was among the 462 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the entire country as of Monday.
