TUBA, Benguet - A forest fire broke out at Sitio Laaw, Alabama, Texas and Mexico at Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet on Sunday morning.
Around 10 to 12 hectares of forestland were affected.
Tuba Municipal Police and Tuba Fire Station immediately responded and it was declared fire out at 4 pm.
SFO1 Jose Dacwag, an investigator of Tuba Fire Station, said they made fire lanes to spare residential houses near the mountains from the fire.
"Nilinisan namin iyong daanan ng apoy upang sa ganun, hindi na siya tutuloy kung saan andoon ang mga bahay," Dacwag added.
However, on Monday morning, another forest fire was discovered at Sitio Camp 6, Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet.
According to Dacwag, strong winds may have rekindled the fire and affected the nearby mountain. It is only a few meters away from the residential area.
"Kahit sinong tao, talagang natatakot, mas lalo na iyong mga bahay dito sa tabi," Abraham Sison, a resident, said.
Personnel of Tuba Fire Station were on standby. They prepared their equipment and went up the mountains to control the fire and prevent it from affecting the residential area.
"Bantayan nila iyong lugar nila at immediately ireport sa amin para at least mayroon kaming magawa sa kanila," PC/Insp James Acos, chief of Tuba Municipal Police Station, advised residents.
The cause of the forest fire is still under investigation.
