MANILA — Instead of having people line up for relief goods, Mandaluyong City village officials will bring supplies to the houses of residents as the government promotes social distancing amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Ito ibibigay namin sa pinto. Hindi na nila kailangan pumila. Ido-door-to-door ito,” Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos said in a DZMM interview on Wednesday.

(We’ll deliver it to their doors. They don’t need to line-up. It will be door-to-door.)

Abalos said barangay captains will facilitate the distribution, which she hopes will happen starting Saturday.

“We already have partial (supplies) but we can’t distribute them yet because there are still missing items,” she said.

The mayor explained that they are still waiting for more supplies to ensure that the food will last for one week. They are also waiting for vegetables that will come from Nueva Ecija farmers.

“With all the roadblocks, they are having trouble with their deliveries,” she said, referring to checkpoints set up for the enhanced community lockdown.

She said relief goods for residents will include rice, canned goods, milk, sugar, coffee and even condiments.

She estimates that they will be giving out around 100,000 bags.

Mandaluyong has 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 12 patients under investigation, and 252 persons under monitoring.
