Police in Cagayan de Oro City underwent random drug testing on March 18, 2017.

Cagayan de Oro City — More than 1,000 local police officers gathered at Pelaez Sports Center on Saturday morning, believing they will undergo monthly rank inspection.

To their surprise, all of them were tested for drugs instead.

Police Senior Supt. Robert Roy Bahian, the newly installed city director of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said the drug test shows that internal cleansing efforts at the Philippine National Police have not relaxed since it was announced by PNP Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.

Bahian added that he aims to regain the public’s trust after numerous reports of corruption among policemen.

Those who will test positive for illegal drugs will be dismissed and will face criminal charges.

It will take a week before test results are released, according to the COCPO.
