DAVAO CITY - Classes and work in government offices were called off Friday as President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown celebrated its 81st founding anniversary.

The celebration kicked off with the annual Parada Davaoeño (Davaoeño parade) where at least 326 contingents from civic groups, schools, colleges, indigenous tribes, Armed Forces, police force, and government offices walked around the city to mark the occassion.

The city government is expected to distribute 10,000 food packs of lechon baka to the public after the parade.

The local government retained last year's theme of "Stand Tall, United, and Resilient."
