MANILA - Consumers on the eastern part of Metro Manila may experience 6 to 20 hours of service interruption daily until the rainy season sets in, water concessionaire Manila Water said Wednesday.

The new water distribution scheme will be implemented starting either March 14 or 15 to "help slow down the rapid decline of the water level at La Mesa Dam," the water company said in an advisory.

La Mesa Dam is Manila Water's emergency source. It mainly draws supply from the Angat Dam, but it has been running short because of increased demand.

"With this, customers may experience from 6 to 20 hours of service interruption. However, when water is available in your taps, pressure may be lower than usual," it said.

"This scheme may last for the next three months or until the rainy season sets in," it said.

Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, and parts of Quezon City and Manila, as well as the province of Rizal will be affected by the new scheme, Manila Water said.

Other water interruption schedules will be posted on Manila Water's official Facebook account.

"We are advising residents of the said barangays to store enough water to supply their needs during the interruption period," the company said.

Hospitals will be prioritized in the water distribution, the water concessionaire earlier said.

Manila Water earlier admitted that delays in its infrastructure projects caused the shortage that was worsened by the prevailing mild El Niño.
