MANILA - The number of adult Filipinos who use the internet hit a record high at 47 percent last quarter, according to a Social Weather Stations survey (SWS) released Wednesday.

This was a 6-point increase from 41 percent in September 2018, SWS said.

Filipinos spend the most time on the internet and on social media sites, according to a 2019 report.

Metro Manila had the most number of internet users with 59 percent, although this decreased from 64 percent in the previous quarter.

It was followed by Balance Luzon with 56 percent, Visayas with 35 percent, and Mindanao with 32 percent.

The survey also found that internet use was higher among women at 49 percent, compared to men at 44 percent.

Filipinos aged 18 to 24 use the internet the most at 88 percent, SWS said.

Next were those aged 25 to 34 at 69 percent, ages 35 to 44 at 56 percent, ages 45 to 54 at 32 percent, and age 55 and above at 17 percent.

The fourth quarter poll had 1,440 respondents and was conducted from December 16 to 19. It has a margin of error of ±2.6 percent for national figures.
