MANILA - Manila Water on Tuesday said it could not set a date on when services will resume for the 52,000 households affected by the latest water outage.

“La Mesa will not be starting to refill until the rains come. Hindi naman overnight puno na ang La Mesa,” Manila Water COO Geodino Carpio said during a press conference on Tuesday.

“Throughout summer we would have below normal conditions,” he said.

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) administrator Reynaldo Velasco earlier said the Maynilad and Manila Water have agreed to share resources to address the water shortage.

By month-end, Manila Water was expected to activate its water treatment plant in Cardona, Rizal, which can provide another supply source.

Carpio however explained that Manila Water would still need to study the technical aspect of “cross border flows” or how Maynilad would be able to transfer their water to Manila Water’s pipes.

Manila Water will also have to factor in Maynilad’s non-revenue water or water loss of around 30 percent.
