President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday shared his take on marriage during the wedding of his security aide.

Duterte served as principal sponsor at the wedding of his security officer, police Senior Insp. Sofia Loren Deliu, to Inspector Abdul-Bassar Abdurajak in Zamboanga City.

"Marriage is not only about exchanging sacred vows. It is also about committing a life filled with eternal love and happiness despite all hardships and difficulties," the President told the couple at the wedding reception.

"Take your time to adapt and get to know one another, and accept each other's strength and weaknesses. Respect and understand your differences and shortcomings and show the same kind of passion and determination at work as a peace officer in keeping your relationship stronger," he added.

Deliu, Duterte's security aide, is a former beauty queen. The half-Filipina, half-Romanian officer placed 15th in the Miss Philippines-Earth beauty pageant in 2015.

The President urged Deliu to apply for an assignment where she could be close to her husband.

"We can always make any arrangements na magkasama kayo, magkalapit lang para naman you start your marriage with a companionship that is constant and frequent. Para naman mabuntis rin kaagad," he said, drawing cheers from the audience.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and Special Assistant to the President Secretary Bong Go also attended the wedding.
