MANILA (UPDATE) - The Department of Health said Monday the Philippines recorded 10 additional COVID-19 cases, all Filipinos, with ages ranging between 24 to 72.

“The Department of Health reported 10 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), on top of the 4 new cases announced yesterday March 8, 2020,” Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.

She told reporters that contact tracing has already started and that the health agency has reached out to concerned local government units.

Based on the profiles released by the DOH, all of the 10 new cases are Filipinos, eight are men while two are women.

Four are admitted to the Makati Medical Center, two at the Tricity Medical Center in Pasig City, two at the UniHealth Parañaque Hospital, one at The Medical City in Ortigas, and one at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

Many of them experienced symptoms in late February or early March. Some have traveled recently to the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Taiwan, and Japan while two were exposed to a known COVID-19 case.

Vergeire said the department only received the information on Monday and will be releasing more details in the coming days. She said there is still no data which of the cases are connected.

Of the initially reported new cases (4th to 10th cases), 468 contacts were identified and 113 were already assessed.

Of that number 107 have been placed under home quarantine and six who showed symptoms were categorized as patients under investigation (PUI) and “placed under isolation at various health facilities.”

Before the new cases were announced, there were 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Half of them are Filipino while the rest are foreign nationals who traveled to another country with cases of the new coronavirus or were in contact with infected people.
