MANILA - Senators on Monday approved on third and final reading the proposal to increase the number of paid maternity leaves.

Senate Bill 1305, or the Expanded Maternity Leave Bill, seeks to increase the number of days of maternity leaves to 120. It also proposes an additional 30 days for solo working mothers.

In a Facebook post, Senator Risa Hontiveros, sponsor of the measure, lauded the approval of the bill in time for the celebration of International Women's Month.

Under the existing law, new mothers may take 60 days of paid leaves. Those who undergo caesarian deliveries are entitled to 78 days of maternity leave.
