MANILA - Fans of Kapamilya stars gathered outside the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City Sunday to show their support for the franchise renewal bid of ABS-CBN Corp., the country's largest broadcast network.
Clad in red, blue and green shirts, fans of Kapamilya stars and love teams held placards saying "No To ABS-CBN Shutdown," "Kapamilya Kami," and "Family Forever," as well as placards of support for their favorite stars.
Among those who attended are fans of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, Elisse Joson, Coco Martin, Joshua Garcia, Kim Chiu, Darren Espanto and Vice Ganda, among others.
Entrata and Barber also joined the prayer rally.
The fans will hold a short program in front of ABS-CBN in Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, where they are expected to share their stories of how ABS-CBN has helped them through the years.
ABS-CBN's franchise is expiring on May 4, 2020 but Congress has yet to tackle nearly a dozen bills seeking to grant the company a fresh 25-year broadcast franchise.
With only few session days left before Congress adjourns starting March 14 for the Lenten break, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises is expected to conduct hearings when lawmakers convene in May.
ABS-CBN operates free TV Channel 2 and radio DZMM.
