MANILA -- Tropical depression Betty (international name: Wutip) entered the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday night, the state weather bureau said.

An erstwhile severe tropical storm, Betty entered PAR at 7 p.m. It is also expected to further weaken into a low pressure area within 12 to 24 hours.

In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Betty was spotted 1,385 kilometers east of Tuguegarao at 10 p.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and 65 kph gusts.
