Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional (ARMM) Governor Mujiv Hataman (left) turns over the offices of the ARMM to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao Interim Chief Minister Al Haj Murad Ebrahim at the Office of the Regional Governor Compound in Cotabato City on Tuesday.

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Leaders of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) formally took over the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in a ceremony held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex on Tuesday morning.

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Murad Ibrahim and ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman led the ceremonial turnover.

“Masaya ako. In fact, maluha ko out of excitement kasi history sa ARMM na nagkaroon ng transition at kumpleto ang dokumento," Hataman said.

The ceremony included handing over book-bound documents from each agency and department of the ARMM to the BARMM.

Murad is the interim chief of the Bangsamoro region. Hataman, who is supposed to be part of the BTA, resigned to allow Murad to freely perform his duties as the new chief of the region.

"Nagkausap na rin kami. Kung meron silang kailangan, may nakiusap after briefing sila [kung] pwede pa akong kausap. Sabi ko naman ‘Ok, walang problema.' But not as regional governor, not as BTA, but as a citizen and at the same time yung sumusuporta na sana maging successful ang BARMM,” Hataman said.

Hataman also wants to focus on his family, his candidacy, and also campaign for Anak Mindanao or Amin Party-list group which he started.

Hataman is running for governor in the province of Basilan, while his wife is seeking to be mayor of Isabela City, Basilan.

Isabela City was included in the proposed Bangsamoro expanded territory, but it failed to win ‘Yes’ votes in the Jan. 21 Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) plebiscite.

The BTA is composed of representatives from the MILF and the government, including incumbent officials of the ARMM.

The ARMM governor, regional vice governor, and members of the regional legislative assembly are supposed to be part of the transition until June 30, 2019.

After the ceremony, Murad toured the regional governor compound.

A web portal, www.armmtransition.ph, can also be accessed by anyone to see and check documents, projects and services under the Hataman administration and all documents turned over to the BARMM.

Murad expressed his gratitude to Hataman for the smooth transition.

"The Bangsamoro people will be very grateful for the things you have done," Murad said.
