A Chinese cargo ship was held off Bredco Port in Bacolod City Monday night to block a possible novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection from its crew from China, which is at the center of the virus' outbreak.

The vessel MV Unicorn Bravo sailed from Xiamen Port carrying at least 3.3 metric tons of fertilizer, which is consigned to a Filipino-Chinese distributor based in Bacolod, authorities said.

This is the ship's first time in the Bacolod area, they added.

According to the official, the crew's body temperature was normal but they will remain off Bredco Port. A quarantine officer will check their condition on Thursday.

The death toll in mainland China from the new coronavirus continue to rise, with confirmed infections reaching 77,658.

Three cases have been confirmed in the Philippines, one of which has resulted in death, the first one outside China.
