(UPDATED) As the People Power Revolution marks its 31st anniversary, Vice-President Leni Robredo called to mind how the uprising proved that, when united, people can succeed in fighting for a common cause.

Robredo arrived at the People Power Monument on Saturday, and she expressed gratitude to the people who attended the commemoration.

The day prior, she also urged an audience attending a talk on the 1986 EDSA Revolution to "never forget" the victims of and the lessons learned from the atrocities of the martial law regime during the Ferdinand Marcos presidency.

"Never forget that liberty rightfully belongs to our nation and its people. Never forget that together, we can make a stand for every Filipino who suffers injustice, for those who have been betrayed and neglected, and for those who continue to aspire for progress in our country. Never forget. Mabuhay ang ating demokrasya!" Robredo said in her closing remarks at the forum called "The Relevance of the 1986 EDSA People Power Today" held at University of the Philippines Diliman on Friday.

On her Facebook page on Saturday, the 31st anniversary of the People Power Revolution, Robredo called for people to be cautious of elements that threaten democracy.

"31 years ago, we stood as a nation against a dictator who trampled our rights and liberties. Today, we remain vigilant," she said.

"The strength of our democracy is the ability of each one of us to be part of nation-building. Together, we can change our country for the better."

Former president Noynoy Aquino and several members of the Liberal Party, with which Robredo is a affiliated, attended the People Power commemoration at the revolution's memorial located along EDSA.
