MANILA (UPDATED) - Touching on a range of topics from national issues to humorous gibes, the first run of "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate" proved of great interest to online Filipinos as it topped social media trending lists here and abroad.

Harapan 2019 notched the number 1 spot in Twitter's top trends for the Philippines Sunday night, and came in second in the list of trending topics worldwide.

Aside from hashtag #Harapan2019, candidates Larry Gadon and Chel Diokno also proved popular on Twitter, as netizens chattered about their answers to "Fast Talk" questions.


According to Twitter Philippines, the most Tweeted candidates were Chel Diokno, Florin Hilbay, Samira Gutoc, Larry Gadon and Bam Aquino.

Aside from following the program on Twitter, thousands of Pinoys also watched the livestream of Harapan 2019 on ABS-CBN News' digital platforms including Facebook and YouTube.

Harapan 2019 also aired live on ANC and DZMM TeleRadyo, with a delayed telecast on ABS-CBN Channel 2's "Sunday's Best".

The maiden offering featured candidates Bam Aquino, Glenn Chong, Chel Diokno, Larry Gadon, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Jiggy Manicad, Willie Ong and Francis Tolentino. Reelectionist Koko Pimentel backed out, citing matters he had to attend to.

The next installment of Harapan 2019 will air on Feb. 24, with the final set of candidates facing the public on March 3.
