MANILA - The Philippine National Police on Monday lauded an officer who was drenched with a cup of taho by a Chinese woman at the MRT-3.

PO1 William Cristobal barred the woman from bringing taho inside the MRT-Boni station due to the railway's no-liquid policy. But the woman, identified as 23-year-old fashion student Jiale Zhang, "suddenly threw" her drink at Cristobal, a police report said.
Cristobal, in a ceremony in Camp Crame, received a medal of commendation from PNP chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde.

"Ipinakita niya iyung kaniyang tiyaga at pasensya na kailangan ng ating kapulisan talaga," Albayalde told reporters.

(He showed the perseverance and patience that our police need.)

Cristobal, for his part, said he was insulted by Zhang's action.

"Naka-uniform ako then on duty, andito ako sa sarili kong bansa then foreigner ang mag-ano sayo, siyempre manliliit po tayo," he said.

(I was in unform, on duty, I was here in my own country, then a foreigner would do that, of course we would feel belittled.)

Police have filed complaints of assault, unjust vexation and disobedience against the Chinese woman. She may also face deportation.

Liquids were banned at railways following a double bomb attack that killed at least 22 people in Jolo, Sulu last month. The policy aims to block liquid bombs.Report from Zhander Cayabyab, ABS-CBN News
